Job Description

As a Junior Trending News Journalist, you are responsible for keeping our highly-engaged audience up-to-date with the latest entertainment news from around the globe. You will entertain the audience, as well as inform them.

On a day-to-day basis, you will be required to write a number of articles (of at least 300 words), as per instruction from the Social Editor. These articles require a featured image (that you will source and credit), as well as links throughout to optimise SEO performance. You will also need to research each article heavily prior to publishing, ensuring that it is accurate and in-line with our Editorial Guidelines.

You will also be required to come up with a number of original articles each week. These suggestions will be discussed with your Social Editor and they will decide whether or not it is a lead worth pursuing. There will be times when you have to travel to different interview opportunities across the country (and possibly internationally).

Trending news is 24/7/365. There may be times when you are asked to turnaround an article from home. There is also the opportunity to do additional hours over the weekend.

Candidate Requirements

We want someone who lives and breathes trending news, and who always knows what’s going on before their friends. Ideally, we would like someone who is a massive fan of celebrity gossip.

You need to be organised, a quick writer, and someone who takes criticism well. The main things we’re looking for are passion, and someone who is willing to go the extra mile. An undergraduate degree in journalism is essential.

  • Portfolio of published articles and a contacts book
  • Ability to follow strict deadlines and fast-check information
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office, digital editing, web search)
  • Excellent communication and networking skills
  • Good observation and deduction skills
  • Integrity and morality
  • Degree in journalism or relevant field
  • Ideally NCTJ-accredited with a minimum of 80wpm shorthand
  • Proven working experience as a journalist (freelance or full-time)?
